Things You Should Do To Prepare For The Roofing Contractors

One of the biggest repairs your home will ever need is having to replace the roof. Even if the structure is sound, and only the roofing materials like the shingles or tiles need to be replaced, it is still a big job that is going to take a few days at least. The first part of the project is going to involve taking all the old roofing off. After that, they will determine the state of the roof itself. Some beams or panels may need to be replaced to maintain the integrity and strength of the roof. After these repairs are made, the roofing will be installed. To help move the project along and to keep people and property safe during the project, here are a few things you should do to prepare for it.

Clear the Area

When the old roofing and any bad roof pieces are removed, they are going to have to go somewhere. Pieces may slide off the roof or be tossed over the side. Make sure there is nothing in the way that can be damaged. Do not park your vehicles in the driveway, move any yard furniture and toys to inside the garage, and lay drop cloths around the base of the house to catch any nails or small pieces you do not want to stay in the yard when the job is done.

Talk with Neighbors

There is going to be some dirt and dust flying around. There will also be things falling off your roof. In addition, the work being done is not going to be quiet. It is the neighborly, considerate thing to let the people who live next door and behind you know what is going to be happening. This will allow them to make special plans if needed for any kids or animals that may get in the way of the work being done in your yard.

Remove Items from Your Walls

With all the walking and hammering going on up on the roof, the walls of the house are going to vibrate. While it might not be enough to make things start to fall off the walls, it is better to be prepared by taking everything down. This way, nothing gets broken and no one ends up getting hurt by things falling.

The roofing contractor may give you a list of other things you should take care of before they get to your home. Be sure to follow this list as it will keep things safe and help the job move along quickly.
